Employee Misclassification: Improved Coordination, Outreach, and Targeting Could Better Ensure Detection and Prevention
Abstract
This publication reports findings of a Government Accountability Office (GAO) evaluation of the extent of worker misclassification across the U.S. and assessment of how DOL and IRS have addressed misclassification both independently and in collaboration with states and other agencies. Drawing on data analysis, interviews and reviews of existing research, the report offers recommendations for ways that DOL and IRS can address the problem of misclassification.
