Connecticut STC Tools & Resources
Connecticut Department of Labor
Connecticuts Short-Time Compensation (STC) tools and resources can be used by other states to get ideas of what is possible in developing and updating state-specific materials. STC, also known as work sharing or shared-work, is a voluntary program states can offer to employers to help retain their workforce when faced with a reduction in available work. It supports employers facing a decline in business to reduce hours for a group of workers, rather than conducting layoffs. Employees affected by this reduction of hours may have a portion of their lost wages replaced with a proportionate percentage of the Unemployment Insurance (UI) benefits they would have been entitled to had they been laid off. Employees jobs and benefits are preserved while participating in an STC program, and employers maintain their trained workforce without having to rehire and retrain new workers when business picks back up.
