Abstract
Code for America's collaborative process involves various teams working together to responsibly deploy artificial intelligence (AI) in assisting clients. During the pandemic, the demand for GetCalFresh, their SNAP application assister, increased. To ensure timely responses, they developed a chatbot for common client questions, emphasizing empathy and human-centered values. Staff members Pik Ting Szeto, Vince Dorie, and Jennifer Thom discuss their work on the project.
