Exploring the Role of Equity in SNAP Modernization and Access

Abstract

In March 2021, Congress approved $1.14 billion under ARPA to aid state SNAP agencies in modernizing programs for better nutrition support during and after COVID-19. Focus groups revealed states used funds to enhance equity by prioritizing client needs, upgrading technology, and involving communities. While effective, the brief suggests alternative grant structures for more impactful equity-focused progress.
