Abstract
The rapid growth of artificial intelligence (AI) presents a transformative opportunity for the labor force, with generative AI tools expected to contribute trillions to the global economy by 2040. However, this advancement raises concerns about its impact on workers and labor markets. This report uses natural language processing to analyze the relationship between job tasks and U.S. technology patents, focusing on AI-related technologies. It finds that exposure to AI technology patents varies among occupational groups and can affect employment growth differently based on task routineness. Notably, nearly all U.S. occupations are exposed to AI technology patents to some extent by 2020. This research contributes valuable insights to the ongoing discussion of AI's implications for the labor market.
