Alabama Executive Order No. 738: Providing for the Responsible and Productive Use of Generative AI in State Government

Abstract

Executive Order No. 738 establishes the Governor's Task Force on Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) in Alabama to promote responsible GenAI use in state agencies. Chaired by a gubernatorial appointee, the Task Force will assess current usage, propose governance frameworks, and submit findings and recommendations by November 30, 2024. State agencies must inventory GenAI instances by May 1, 2024. The Office of Information Technology will facilitate safe GenAI pilot projects. The order aims to enhance government services and efficiency while ensuring responsible GenAI implementation across state agencies.
